WACO, Texas Jury selection began Monday in the trial of a sex offender charged with attempting to hire a hit man to kill the Waco judge who convicted him.
Sixty-four-year-old William Ray Phillips is charged with capital murder solicitation.
Phillips was arrested in February 2014 after a 10-month investigation showed he allegedly tried to pay $30,000 to have Judge Matt Johnson of Waco's 19th State District Court killed.
The Waco Herald-Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1A16aTn ) that Johnson sentenced Phillips in January 2013 to 10 years in prison for failing to register as a sex offender.
Johnson had previously sentenced Phillips to 46 months in federal prison in 2002 for possession of more than 800 images of child pornography on his computer, including photos of a family member he was later convicted of sexually abusing. ..Source.. by Star Telegram.com
