UPDATE: US House Judiciary Committee Markup Session - Adam Walsh Act

UPDATE 10-27: So far the House has not posted when the 10-13/14 MarkUp Session will continue. Transcripts and Videos of the 10-13 and 10-14 sessions are here: Both Videos and Transcripts.
10-27-2011 National:
In September I let folks know about HR-2870 "Adam Walsh Reauthorization Act of 2011" which was introduced by Rep Sensenbrenner, F. James, Jr. [WI-5] on 9/8/2011 and referred to the House Committee on the Judiciary. Stated Intent: To reauthorize certain programs established by the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006.

Now we see that Adam Walsh Reauthorization Act of 2011 is part of the House Judiciary Committee Mark-Up session on Oct 13-14 (Deferred from 10-4, and now again).

A few facts to consider:
It is important to note that, New York State has just Opted-Out of the Adam Walsh Act, and in Texas and California there is talk of the same. These three states make up 28% of the SORNA state registrants (According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children).

According to the SMART Office only 15 states are in substantial compliance, their registrants number 218,424 (NCMEC) which is 30% of the SORNA state registrants.

Those two facts means there are 42% of the SORNA state registrants left and their states are still questioning whether it is prudent to come into compliance or not.
Two Lawmakers are going to PROPOSE changes to SORNA and those AMENDMENTS would be added to the reauthorization bill. Those changes are positive, and some towards registrants too (Yes, very unusual).

Accordingly, everyone needs to contact their Representatives in Washington, and House Judiciary Members, and urge them to pass HR-2870 WITH PROPOSED AMENDMENTS when it is time for them to vote.

For now have a great day and a better tomorrow.
