Washington Hearing: Second Chance Reauthorization Act of 2011

7-9-2011 Washington DC:

Senate Judiciary
Thu, Jul 14, 2011 10:00 AM. Business meeting to consider S.1231, to reauthorize the Second Chance Act of 2007

Folks may remember that, the Second Chance Act of 2007, EXCLUDES sex offenders, HOWEVER this new bill S 1231 REMOVES that exclusion. If this bill passes -as currently written- then thousands of sex offenders all across the nation will reap the benefits of the Second Chance Act.

This MAY BE a Historic moment, but we still need to watch S 1231 to see IF IF IF IF it is changed on its trip through Congress, so we hope Congress will recognize the needs of thousands of sex offenders nationally when they are released, as they already recognize the needs of other offenders.

For now have a great day and a better tomorrow.

PS: Within the Second Chance Act there is still a sticky part dealing with Federal offenders, and we are hoping this gets resolved as well. Right now there is nothing to help this group of former offenders in S 1231.

  1. We should give certain sex offenders a second chance, especially first time offenders, which were NON Violent. example A pornography offender, who had 7 naked videos of teenage girls, should we brand these offenders for 25 years? If they reoffend throw the book at them.

  2. We should give sex offenders a second chance, especially first time offenders, which were consisered non violent as far back as 20 years ago, then over time, placed in as violent sex offenders, due to the new laws. These people made a bad judgment call or mislead or even as much as lied about, went to court, took a plea bargain, did their time, past their probations early and released on outstanding behavior, only to be placed years later on a new list. The second chance act law should especially apply to them, as their whole life has been in turmoil especially if they did not have a prior record before the incident or back 20 years ago, plus have not had a record since the incident and new laws. Basically the only record they have, is what was placed on them in the recent years of the harder laws, from being a non violent offender to suddenly a violent sex offender. There is a difference in a person that did a crime, was honest enough to admit it and come forth for help then, get decieved by the blind eye of the justice, compared to the person that seeks out children. There is a difference in a person that has sex with a 17 year old that is not honest 20 years ago to that person rather than a person that stalks and molest little children of ages 2 up to 15. I hope that the second chance act will set the oppressed that do not deserve this free. After serving 20 years of ones life to be such a monster, over a non violent deal, can make one not believe in anything, like a cancer that grows. It is so unfair and leads to a corruption as a whole for all things do to the unfair justice of all that do not see. I am certainly for anyone that harms a child to have justice served, but definately am not for justice served wrongly. Unless one has went thru this, they do not know the pain on either side, of being both a victim and then an offender. But I do.
